❗️ incredibly miraculous
[ Adrenaline surges through Adrien as he falls. Fear grips his heart—but he shouldn’t be scared. After all, this kind of excitement is exactly what he was hoping for, when he first discovered his abilities as a Super.
The only problem now is that he can’t use them, not without revealing himself.
The wind howls in his ears and dries out his mouth. His stomach tickles. He only has a few seconds to figure this out—but surely it can’t be a difficult decision.
After all, life as an outlaw is better than no life at all. He closes his eyes, and when he opens them again, they flash green, with vertical pupils.
Do cats really land on their feet? He’s about to find out. ]

Luckily for Adrien Agreste's private life, Piper McLean doesn't really do cautious.
It started off as simple as any of her recent stints did, an attempted robbery in progress, some type of event, and a bunch of high profile marks were in attendance, her own father included. Piper hadn't been invited of course, keep out of the spotlight and all that. Fine. She wasn't big on formal dress anyway, and HATED the high profile lifestyle. It left her free to play impromptu security for the event, and a good thing she did, too. Even from several buildings away she'd picked up the messages on the police scanner where she'd set up a quick stake out camp. That was all it took to get her on the move, already in "costume" (Never wear the same outfit twice, she'd decided. It would make it harder for someone to track her down, or so she reasoned. On the off chance someone got photos they'd have a harder time piecing together physical details from different angles if the clothing differed from night to night, right?).
Just that she'd gotten there too late, a hostage had already been taken, brought up to the roof, and then either by struggle or by cowardice on the thief's part- Piper arrived just in time to see him fall. Her own heart leaped into her throat, trying to think fast. She saw a risky opening and decided to act on it, securing some rope before running, straight for the ledge, leaping- and thank God for her powers giving her some resistance against the pain and stretch as her weight caught, but that was in her favor, too. She'd been counting on it as her momentum swung her in the perfect arc to intercept. Their bodies collided in mid air as she caught him in her free arm, winding it tight around his waist and aiming them up and around the side of the building, out of sight.
Letting out a breathless chuckle as they swung away into the darkness, ignoring the mild strain on her other arm, Piper spoke up above the wind. ]
You know, usually when people go skydiving they bring this useful thing called a parachute.

Shit, he doesn’t even know what building it is (if it’s even the same one). He tumbles out of his rescuer’s arms, looking relieved.
If her comment is supposed to make him feel better, it works. He actually cracks a smile, snapping his fingers. ]
Knew I forgot something. Maybe I should go back and tell him.

Grinning, she shakes her head, already heading for the ledge of this new roof, but looks back. ]
Don't worry. I'll be sure to pass it along myself. Think you can make it back down from here alright? [ Or maybe he has a cell phone he can call for help with. ]

At the question, he realizes she is leaving and looks at her for the first time, curious. ]
I... think I’ll manage.
[ is. is that a mask? ]
Who are you?

At his question, though, a playful spark lights up her eyes behind the mask, a rainbow of shifting colors. She brings a finger to her lips, as if telling him- ]
Sorry, blondie, but that one's a secret. Just between you and me now, alright?
[ With that said she steps up onto the ledge, tossing the rope aside since it won't help her from here. Before she goes, though, she does look back one more time, ignoring the wind tossing her hair. ] Be careful getting down. Don't need you falling for me twice on the same night.
[ She winks, and then she leaps over the side, finding a fire escape ladder to slide down until she's out of sight to continue her pursuit on foot. ]

Before he can register how awful that line is, she jumps, and he reaches after her in vain, a smile tugging at his lips threateningly. ]
Wait! Th-Thanks, for—!! [ He falters, becoming less and less sure that she is hearing him. Mostly for his own sake, he finishes the thought. ] —saving me.

Rather than waste his breath shouting after her, he just turns around, allowing her rude exit to linger in his mind.
One graceful jump after the next.
He finds the door that will lead him off the roof and down to safety, looking back over his shoulder before opening it. ]
I could do that. [ he thinks, muttering to himself.
But he leaves it at that, and quickly pulls out his phone as he descends.
He has a father and an entire police force to calm down. ]
