❄ baby, it's cold outside
[ The Bourgeouis Pre-Christmas Celebration Bash.
With a cool, over the top name like that, there was no way it wouldn't be fun, and Adrien had to go hard convincing both Nathalie and his father to let him go. In the end though, despite him being used to most invasions of his personal space, he is tired.
He has run out of excuses to give, honestly. He has run out of ways to duck the mistletoe, even from the sweetest of girls (Marinette), and the not so sweet (Chloe). And if he eats anymore sweets that were made ~~just for him~~, he's going to burst. Not to mention gain weight, which his father would really, really, really not like.
...He was doing a pretty good job enduring all of this, or so he thought, but every once and a while he catches Piper's eye. No big deal. He recovers from the fatigue quickly and puts on his act. He smiles and waves, as per his usual fare; and as one of the few girls adamantly respecting his space tonight, her company is definitely welcome, which helps.
As soon as he approaches her, though, he finds himself catching her as she faints, and he nearly drops her from the surprise. ]
Wh-Whoa! Piper?
[ It takes him a moment to recover the concentration and strength needed to support her. What the heck?? ]

Alright, there was hot chocolate too.
[ He could hardly forget how warm it made his hands feel. ]
But seriously... we could get some.

Let's go get some, then. I can't imagine I'll have better than what Paris has to offer.

He finds himself off the boat first, and offers his hand in the most gentlemanly way he can manage. Hot chocolate is imminent, but first... ]
So, be honest: how many times did you think we were gonna tip over?
I won't even pretend to apologize for all these foreshadowing puns.
Once they've reached the pier again Piper watches him ease out of the boat like he was born on the water or something, and she tries really damn hard not to let on how damn smooth that was just now. She can blame the cold for the red in her cheeks when she gives him her hand, right? She's totally blaming the cold. ]
...
[ She smirks- well, half-smirk, half-crooked smile actually when she realizes her honest answer. ]
None. Why? Were you? Worried you were gonna fall for me?
[ bu dum tish i guess wow piper wow ]

And he's still holding her hand.
And she hasn't fully gotten out of the boat yet. That might've actually stopped her in her tracks. ]
... Oh... and... what exactly would you do about it if you had?

This isn’t the butterflies in his stomach he’s used to getting with Ladybug, either, that urge to impress her. It isn’t the same spark he feels sometimes, when clashing swords with Kagami.
It’s new. It’s the fact that he couldn’t even lie to her when she found out his secret. It’s the ability to just be himself for what feels like the first time, and the ability to talk about his dad, knowing that she would understand.
It’s realizing that maybe this is what an equal partnership feels like. ]

No idea. Probably fall into this lake, to be honest.
[ why is that idea so tempting to him rn. ]
Would it still be mutual if I was a devilishly cool and handsome ice statue?
1/?
Stay cool and collected, easier said than done even for her. Yet she manages to hold onto her composure, just so, digging her proverbial nails into it and holding tight while waiting for his answer.
And GOD does Adrien's initial silence make her anxious. ]

Piper, though, she felt like she was putting it all out on the line and praying he'd not just bite, but stay... well, hooked? No, not hooked, but interested. Definitely interested. If he turned her down here, now, she'd feel like such an idiot. She is, blessedly, spared from that when he answers, even if they're still dancing around the matter with their usual banter. His nervous chuckle tells her he definitely took her at least partially serious, or he was giving it at least somewhat serious consideration. Which it was, she didn't want to assume any more than she already had. But... ]
Like you could stay still enough to be a statue, even frozen.

I don't know... but since you haven't scared me off yet with your clawful puns I don't think I'm going anywhere.
[ She adds more seriously, because the last thing she wants is for him to think she's just into him for stupidly superficial reasons. Nothing could be further from the truth, but hey, he probably knows her at least THAT well by now, she'd hope.
Even so: Falling in the lake probably isn't that bad of an idea honestly they can go together. ]

This is like a PG-rated game of chicken, with less touching (and obviously less gay). Adrien feels his cheeks warm, but he doesn’t let that distract him. He is absolutely coaxing her onto shore if she will let him, because with all this talk of falling in, he feels like they’ve been in limbo long enough.
He will also take the initiative in reeling in the boat so that they can drag it back to the pile where they got it. Anything to keep busy. ]
I like your pawsitive cattitude.
But... did I just accidentally ask you out, or was it you?
